Mötley Crüe's '90s Reunion With Vince Neil Was Inevitable, Says John Corabi

Singer John Corabi has few regrets about his brief tenure in Mötley Crüe, noting that there isn't much he could have done to stick around in the band longer than he did.

Corabi was hired to replace Vince Neil in Mötley Crüe in 1992 and let go just a few years later to make way for Neil's return.

Corabi tells The SDR Show that Mötley Crüe put a massive record deal in jeopardy when they hired him. Anything short of a gigantic hit album was probably not going to satisfy the label, which was less than thrilled with Neil's initial departure.

"And so Allen [Kovac, manager] came to me and he said, 'Here's the deal, dude. No disrespect to you, but this isn't what the record label paid for,'" Corabi recalls. "His words were, 'I don't give a f--- if Paul McCartney was fronting this band — it's not what they paid for. They want Vince Neil, or they're doing nothing.' I understood. And, you know, that was that."

Corabi dives deep into his journeyman career in rock and roll in his new memoir, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades: Tales from the Other Mötley Crüe Frontman, which is due out June 14 via Rare Bird.
