Stevie Nicks is working on her first album in 14 years. The Fleetwood Mac star shared the news during a Pollstar Hall Of Fame induction speech on Wednesday (April 16).
“I’m actually making a record right now,” she began (as transcribed by Consequence).
“It just really kinda happened in the last couple of weeks because of, you know, the fires,” she explained, referring to the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. “I was sitting in a hotel for 92 days, and at some point during that last part of the 92 days, I said, ‘You know what? I feel like I’m on the road, but there’s no shows.’ I’m just sitting here by myself because everybody else is at the house, doing all the remediations and everything, and it’s just me, sitting here. And I thought, ‘You need to go back to work.’ And I did.”
She went on to reveal that this will be her first collection of fully autobiographical material. “I have seven songs, and they are autobiographical, real stories where I’m not pulling any punches for probably the first time in my life,” she said. “They are not airy-fairy songs that you are wondering who they’re about but you don’t really get it. They’re real stories of memories of mine, of fantastic men.”
Later in the speech, Nicks shared an anecdote about Prince that inspired the album. She recalled him saying, "You always bring me a gift, you never bring me you,” when she tried gifting him a good necklace.
“This is where this record began," she admitted. "I said, ‘I am ready to write!’”
Nicks released a new song called "The Lighthouse" last September, which she wrote shorty after Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022. Her last studio album is 2011's In Your Dreams. The singer-songwriter unveiled summer tour dates earlier this week. Check out the full list below.
