Ray LaMontagne creates folk songs that are alternately lush and intimately earthy. LaMontagne's debut album,Trouble (2004), impressed critics with the cinematic style of pieces like "Narrow Escape" and the title track. A follow-up album, Til the Sun Turns Black (2006), widened LaMontagne's palette by incorporating horns and strings, and included songs that were featured in multiple American television shows including “ER,” “Bones” and “One Tree Hill.”
In 2012, LaMontagne released God Willin' & the Creek Don't Rise. He produced the album at his home studio and was the first that included a billing for his backing band, the Pariah Dogs. The album earned LaMontagne his first Grammy Award® for Best Contemporary Folk Album. Produced and recorded by the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach, LaMontagne's fifth album, Supernova, was released in 2014. The album reached #1 on Billboard'sTop Rock Albums chart and #3 on the Billboard Top 200. Teasing a change of direction, LaMontagne released his sixth studio album, Ouroboros (2016), which saw the singer-songwriter immersed in the blues guitar and vintage instrument-rich psychedelia.
